ReShark is an innovative, international collective of aquariums, NGOs, governments, academics, and local communities dedicated to scalable shark and ray rewilding through its affiliate project model. ReShark links ex situ and in situ shark and ray conservation efforts through breeding and conservation translocations.

Key Project Criteria

  • THREATENED STATUS

    The species is listed as threatened
    (i.e. Critically Endangered, Endangered, or Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List).

  • KEY ASSESSMENTS

    Population viability analysis (PVA) and genetic analyses have been completed to assess the feasibility of population recovery.

  • CONSERVATION MEASURES

    Adequate primary and secondary conservation measures are in place, including strictly-enforced MPAs, fisheries management, and legal frameworks.

  • POST-RELEASE MONITORING

    A robust post-release monitoring program is possible allowing for long-term tracking of reintroduced individuals and population outcomes.

  • OTHER GUIDELINES

    The project meets additional relevant IUCN guidelines and protocols, such as those outlined for conservation translocations and reintroductions.
